The church of St Thomas the Apostle consists of nave, chancel, south aisle, and western belfry with spire. The church dates from the 11th or 12th century but was largely rebuilt in the 13th and 14th centuries. The belfry was originally believed to have been added in the 15th century but radiocarbon tests and structural evidence show that it was built in the 13th century, probably c1250 or earlier. In 1940 the church was badly damaged by a German parachute mine.
