Brightlingsea - St James

St James was consecrated as a Chapel of Ease in 1836 for the growing waterside part of Brightlingsea which is over a mile away from the older All Saints' church. With roofing of grey slate, it used Suffolk White brick as an economical building material, although it's not very white now. The town clock celebrating Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee (1887) is mounted on the side of the unusual octagonal tower.
