Great Sampford - St Michael the Archangel

Apart from the thirteenth-century south transept almost the entire structure dates to between 1320 and 1350. The church seems extraordinary grand for such a small village, but it came under the jurisdiction of the wealthy Battle Abbey in Sussex, and was rebuilt by one of the most powerful political organizations in the late Middle Ages: the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, the Knights Hospitallers. The church is Grade I listed
