This charming Saxon church sits in a remote part of Essex, at the centre of a circle of trees. The church plan seems haphazard, with no right angles anywhere, but this only adds to its appeal. There are two original double-splay windows high up in the walls. The chancel was extended in the thirteenth century and the tower was begun around 1300 and gradually grew in height over the next thirty years.. Both the chancel and tower have been built at an angle to the nave.
