The Harlowbury Chapel is the oldest building in Harlow, built in 1180 with brick buttressed flint walls and Norman arched doors and windows. It served to allow the abbots of Bury St Edmunds to offer prayer when travelling to London.Original windows and doors survive today: a crown post was added c.1300, the 16th century floor and 19th century upper storey were later additions.
