Great Bentley - St Mary the Virgin

The nave and chancel are Norman, with original windows on either side. The chancel was extended eastwards in the early 14th century. The tower was built towards the end of the 14th century although the battlements were added later. The church is Grade I listed. Great Bentley has the largest village green in Essex, at 45 acres. It has been protected by statute since 1812.
