In 1435, when Gosfield was declared a 'great town' having reached a jam-packed population of 240, the Rolf family decided to build a new church on the site of the old one. The church tower was built in 1490 and its original bell (dated 1420) survives, along with additional bells added in 1637, 1704 and 1962.
Today Gosfield has a population of c.1,500.
